Casio’s finger-sized smartwatch still leaves room for a timepiece on the wrist

If you know watches, you know Casio, a popular name in the time-keeping business. To commemorate half a century since the brand stepped into the realm of digital watches, Casio has now announced one of the most unique smartwatch designs we’ve ever seen.

Meet the Casio CRW-001-1JR, a hybrid between smartwatches and smart rings, which offers the perks of a smartwatch but is compact enough to fit on a finger like a ring. This makes it so small, you can probably get away with wearing an actual watch on the wrist of the same hand.

The watch pays homage to the classic Casio G-Shock GMW-B5000, which was known for its square case and full-metal body. Here’s everything that you need to know about the new Casio CRW-001-1JR.

Casio CRW-001-1JR: Key Features

The Casio CRW-001-1JR looks like a miniature module that looks playful but is also practical. It weighs around 16 grams which is heavier than Samsung Galaxy Ring, it weighs a maximum of 3 grams. It is less than an inch in size. Casio has added a six-segment LCD screen that shows the time.

Casio claims this smart ring watch is waterproof and can be worn for daily use. It is also powered by a replaceable small button battery that should last for two years of use.

This little gadget can tell you the time in two locations. It comes with an in-built stopwatch function. Users can set alarms for specific times on the device. Casio has fitted a small LED light so that users can view the time in the dark.

There is also a flashing light function that lights up at a set time but since it has no speaker, it cannot make an audible sound or provide calling capabilities.

The new Casio wearable may have a few limitations when it comes to smartwatch capabilities. Users will not be able to track their fitness goals or sync notifications from their smartphones.

Casio CRW-001-1JR: Price, availability

Since the Casio CRW-001-1JR is a limited edition, it will only be available in one size – 22. This ring size is the equivalent of that of US size 10.5. It is important to note that the strap is not adjustable. But the smart ring includes size adjustment spacers that can help with a snugger fit for users who have smaller fingers.

This new wearables by Casio will only be available in Japan. It has been priced at 19,800 Yen which roughly amounts to Rs 10,800. It will be made available at the start of December.

Weather the Casio CRW-001-1JR starts a whole new category of wearable devices moving forward, remains to be seen. But, it sure makes for a unique timepiece and fashion accessory, that will surely turn heads, if it catches the eye first.
