According to the agreement of December 8, the companies will explore manufacturing and packaging of Intel products for local markets at Tata Electronics’ upcoming fab and OSAT facilities. They said they would explore collaboration for advanced packaging in India. Packaging is critical in the chip business because it protects internal elements and improves efficiency, among other factors.

Analysts said Apple’s iPhone display panels come from the world’s top three OLED panel makers — Samsung Display Corp, LG Display and BOE. The display driver integrated circuit (DDIC) suppliers for these panel makers include Samsung, Novatek, Himax and LX Semicon, which primarily depend on South Korean, Taiwanese or China-based units for getting chips manufactured and packaged.

“As India matures into a vital node in the global electronics supply chain, Apple could benefit from enhanced resilience and diversification by potentially partnering with an Indian chip major,” said Prabhu Ram, vice president, industry research group, CyberMedia Research. “The main challenge—and opportunity—for CG Semi will be meeting Apple’s stringent quality standards, attaining consistent yields and steering deep OSAT process expertise at scale.”

CG Semi’s Rs 7,600-crore OSAT plant has central and state government support and is being set up in collaboration with Renesas and Stars Microelectronics.

The amount is being invested over five years to develop two state-of-the-art facilities — G1 and G2. G1 was inaugurated on August 28 and will operate at a peak capacity of about 0.5 million units per day. It is equipped to handle end-to-end chip assembly, packaging, testing and post-test services.

The company said at the time that it was on track to commence commercial production in calendar year 2026, as committed to the India Semiconductor Mission.

Source:Apple explores chip assembly talks with Indian manufacturers – The Economic Times

[609

post-54798","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-industrial-news
["GET
