The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TSMC shared this information nugget with delegates at the Taiwan National Science and Technology Conference on Monday,\u00a0<a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.electronicsweekly.com\/news\/business\/c-c-wei-and-elon-musk-hooking-up-on-robots-2024-12\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"slk:reports;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-rapid_p=\"6\" data-v9y=\"1\">reports<\/a>\u00a0Electronics Weekly. Moreover, he told his audience that TSMC would supply all the chips Musk wanted if the price was right.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1pe5jgt\">In August, we last discussed Musk\u2019s Optimus robots when the billionaire tech mogul showed off the newly renamed\u00a0<a class=\"link  yahoo-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/tech\/elon-musk-shows-off-cortex-110053847.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Cortex AI supercluster;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" data-rapid_p=\"7\" data-v9y=\"1\">Cortex AI supercluster<\/a>. At the time, this impressive supercomputer used 50,000 Nvidia\u00a0<a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.tomshardware.com\/news\/nvidia-hopper-h100-gpu-revealed-gtc-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"slk:H100s;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-rapid_p=\"8\" data-v9y=\"1\">H100s<\/a>. Even more impressively, it had grown to leverage\u00a0<a class=\"link  yahoo-link\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/elon-musk-plans-scale-xai-135325770.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:over 100,000 H100s;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" data-rapid_p=\"9\" data-v9y=\"1\">over 100,000 H100s<\/a>\u00a0by the beginning of this month, with plans supposedly to go for the million\u2026<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1pe5jgt\">We know this AI supercomputer power will be directed at xAI\u2019s signature products like Grok \u2013 hoping to outgun rival OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT and Google Gemini. Investors have also been informed that Cortex will be used to train the long-awaited Full Self Driving (FSD) autopilot system for Tesla and today\u2019s headlining AI-powered future tech product \u2013 Optimus humanoid robots. According to the cited report, Optimus is now Musk\u2019s pet project.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"video-embed-container yf-1jxrwet\" data-embed-anchor=\"44cb7b9a-4c0b-5922-bc81-20530e8cbf1d\">\n<div class=\"iframe-container  yf-j454i8\" data-testid=\"youtube-iframe-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"rounded yf-j454i8\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DrNcXgoFv20\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" scrolling=\"no\" data-testid=\"youtube-iframe\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"yf-1pe5jgt\">CC Wei told conference delegates that \u201cmultifunctional robots are the most critical area and that he is dedicating great efforts to it, rather than cars.\u201d Tesla owners might like to know that. The TSMC boss also let it be known that Musk was concerned about securing adequate supplies of processors to realize his AI-powered humanoid robot dreams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1pe5jgt\">TSMC currently makes\u00a0<a class=\"link  yahoo-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/tech\/teslas-wafer-sized-dojo-processor-101510331.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Tesla Dojo;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" data-rapid_p=\"10\" data-v9y=\"1\">Tesla Dojo<\/a>\u00a0chips, and as is typical of the AI industry, the tech titans behind this segment can\u2019t get enough chips. Wei revealed that he tried to calm Musk\u2019s chip-starvation worries by explaining, \u201cIf you are willing to pay us, then please don\u2019t worry too much. I will make sure you get the chips.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1pe5jgt\">So, humanoid robots look set to enjoy massive financial and technological investments, but they aren\u2019t the only sector TSMC\u2019s CC Wei sees necessary for the company\u2019s future fortunes.
