{"id":25655,"date":"2024-05-07T09:13:41","date_gmt":"2024-05-07T01:13:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ljdevice.com.tw\/?p=25655\/"},"modified":"2024-05-07T09:16:08","modified_gmt":"2024-05-07T01:16:08","slug":"teslas-next-gen-dojo-ai-training-tile-production","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ljdevice.com.tw\/en\/teslas-next-gen-dojo-ai-training-tile-production\/","title":{"rendered":"Tesla\u2019s next-gen Dojo AI training tile is in production"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>May 1 2024<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-25656\" src=\"https:\/\/ljdevice.com.tw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/2024-05-07_091225-239x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"239\" height=\"200\" \/><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Tesla\u2019s next-gen Dojo AI training tile is in production, according to supplier Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC).<\/p>\n<p>Tesla has been heavily investing in AI training compute power both through buying NVIDIA hardware and building its own under its Dojo program.<\/p>\n<p>The first generation of its<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/09\/11\/tesla-tsla-stock-surges-optimistic-dojo-supercomputer\/\">\u00a0Dojo super computing platform went into operation last summer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after, it was reported that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/09\/26\/tesla-reportedly-ramps-up-partnership-tsmc-dojo-supercomputer-chip\/\">Tesla had expanded its partnership with TSMC<\/a>, a large semiconductor company that manufactures the Dojo chip for the automaker.<\/p>\n<div class=\"top-comment\">\n<h2 class=\"h4 top-comment__heading\">Top comment by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2024\/05\/01\/tesla-next-gen-dojo-ai-training-tile-production\/#comments\">skierpage<\/a><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"top_comment__meta\">Liked by 7 people<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"top-comment__body\">\n<p>The D1 chip was okay, what&#8217;s really impressive is putting 25 of them in an area the size of a dinner plate (the training tile) and supplying 15 kilowatts of power to it.<\/p>\n<p>It remains unclear whether a full system will perform better than an Nvidia-based supercomputer cluster, but Nvidia is charging so much for its chips that if Dojo is only 20% as powerful at 10% the cost it could be worth doing. It&#8217;s unclear whether Tesla has assembled a full working system.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2024\/05\/01\/tesla-next-gen-dojo-ai-training-tile-production\/#comments\">View all comments<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Now, TSMC has confirmed that Tesla\u2019s next-generation Dojo chip has entered production and they are working on tech that could deliver much greater power to Dojo in 2027 (via\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/spectrum.ieee.org\/amp\/tsmc-advanced-packaging-2667881414\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IEEE Spectrum<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>At TSMC\u2019s\u00a0North American Technology Symposium\u00a0on Wednesday, the company detailed both its semiconductor technology and chip-packaging technology road maps. While the former is key to keeping the traditional part of Moore\u2019s Law going, the latter could accelerate a trend toward processors made from more and more silicon, leading quickly to systems the size of a full silicon wafer. Such a system,\u00a0Tesla\u2019s next generation Dojo training tile\u00a0is already in production, TSMC says. And in 2027 the foundry plans to offer technology for more complex wafer-scale systems than Tesla\u2019s that could deliver 40 times as much computing power as today\u2019s systems.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This new tile is likely going to be used for Tesla\u2019s new planned $500 million Dojo cluster in New York.<\/p>\n<p>Sperately, Tesla is building a new 100 MW data center to train its self-driving AI at Gigafactory Texas, but we were told that this system is going to use NVIDIA hardware.<\/p>\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\"><\/div>\n<p>Tesla\u2019s Dojo program hasn\u2019t been all smooth sailing.
